The project is made up of several multidisciplinary teams that connect to each other in order to offer a comprehensive view of the research:
QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH: Development and processing of data from population surveys, on-site pharmacy forms, and data from the healthcare system. This information will be key to the subsequent co-creation process.
QUALITATIVE-PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH: It integrates interviews, focus groups, and sociograms with participatory methodologies to understand local contexts and jointly design health improvement strategies.
AWARENESS FOR CITIZEN PARTICIPATION: It promotes community involvement through public activities, opportunities for debate, and critical communication on health and equity to foster critical awareness in public health.
ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATION: Coordination and execution of administrative functions, as well as economic and financial management. Management of venues, institutional relations, and media coverage of the project.

Marí Carmen Santiago Portero
Public Health Nurse – Elche Public Health Center. She collaborates in the training of intercultural mediators. Her role is to facilitate epidemiological, educational, and food safety interventions in culturally diverse contexts. Currently, she is a research collaborator at CAIR.
Águeda Fernández Jiménez
Social educator in the Department of Community Action of the Elche City Council. She has extensive experience in the field of intercultural community intervention and community outreach. Currently, she is a research collaborator at CAIR.
Kara Wettstone
Kara gradudated from Gordon College in Massachussets, USA with a degree in Business Administration and Psychology. Since then she has worked in multiple NGOs in the U.S. and in Spain working in youth development and migrant health. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Global Health through ISGlobal at the University of Barcelona and is doing her Master Final Project in collaboration with the CAIR project.
Lucia Moya Sanjuan
Psychology student at Miguel Hernández University of Elche, she has participated in research with university teachers on population over 65 years of age, with the aim of conducting assessments and providing interventions through applied sessions. Currently, she is involved in the quantitative phase of the CAIR Project, surveying patients visiting selected community pharmacies, focusing on the areas of psychological well-being and cardiovascular health.
Eliza Michalina Kasumi
Pharmacy student at Miguel Hernández University of Elche, she served as the IT representative for the Alicante Pharmacy Students’ Congress (2025-2026) and organized CEFAPODS in collaboration with Radio UMH (2025-2026). She is currently collaborating with the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology on an experimental final degree project (TFG) on in vitro-in vivo correlation adjustment (IVIVC) (2025-2027). She is also participating in the quantitative phase of the CAIR Project, conducting surveys of patients visiting selected community pharmacies, focusing on psychological well-being and cardiovascular health.
Gloria Martínez Álvarez
She holds a medical degree from Cardenal Herrera University (Castellón), a Master’s degree in Clinical Medicine and Medical Professionalism from the University of Alcalá, and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the University of Alicante. She is currently completing her residency in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the San Juan University Hospital in Alicante. She completed her research rotation with the CAIR team.
Inmaculada Boluda Verdú
Graduated in Medicine from the Miguel Hernández University and Master in Public Health from the Escuela Nacional de Sanidad. He is currently doing his residency in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at La Paz University Hospital. He has published two articles on non-pharmacological interventions and on eco-anxiety. She has done her rotation in research with the CAIR team.
Adrián San Roque
Graduated in Medicine from the Catholic University of Valencia, he also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the University of Alicante. He currently works as a Resident Physician in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Hospital Universitari Sant Joan d’Alacant and he has done his research rotation with CAIR’s team.

The Miguel Hernández University of Elche is a Spanish public university founded in 1996 with its main headquarters in Elche (Alicante). The research group Salud Global UMH, which includes CAIR’s Principal Investigator, Lucy Anne Parker, and other team members, is attached to the Department of Public Health, History of Science and Gynecology of the Faculty of Medicine.
Elche City Council is the governing and administrative body of the municipality, a public corporation, and with which the CAIR project signed a collaboration agreement.
